Media Day

This past Monday (September 30th), was Media day at the University of Maine for the Men’s Ice Hockey Team. The day when all members of media throughout the state of Maine. I got a chance to interview a few Maine Hockey Players. Highlights of the event was the revealing of the captains, Senior Brice O’Connor was voted captain and Forwards Senior Mark Anthoine and Sophomore Devin Shore were voted as Alternate Captains. The traditional shaving cream pie to the Freshman went to Forward Blaine Byron.

Some fun

Some players had some fun during media day. Players from counterclockwise, Jon Swavely, Mark Anthoine, Brice O’Connor, and Steven Swavely. Photo Courtesy of WMEB Sports.

Brice O’Connor:
My first interview was of the Senior Defenseman who was named captain this past week

Brice said it was an honor to be named captain. He remarked that this is a new system and a new era here at UMaine and that they’re excited for the changes. A favorite memory of his has been playing at the Alfond, as well as anything with the guys (players). To see the interview click on the video below.

Blaine Byron:

My next interview was the Freshman Forward who had been drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Blaine said getting on the ice, and on campus has been fun. He added that this is a tight group this year. When i asked about his experience getting drafted he said it was fun, but he’s not worrying about that now as he is at Maine. To see the interview click on the video below.

Jake Rutt:

My last interview was of someone who I admit to being a small fan of, he hails from my hometown so there’s that whole fandom cause he’s from where I lived. He is a Junior Defenseman who probably will see some time on the 1st/2nd line of defense.

It wasn’t a long interview but the highlight was that Jake can’t wait to play Notre Dame this year. To see the interview click on the video below.
