Getting to Know the Freshmen of UMaine Hockey

Maine added eight new freshmen to the roster.

Cam Brown

This 5’7″ 150 pound forward from Natick, Mass comes to Maine after spending last year playing for the Youngstown Phantoms, a junior league team in the USHL. He played in 61 games scoring 16 goals and 20 assists totaling 36 points on the season. He previously played for the NH Junior Monarchs, four current Maine players are alum of this program.

Blaine Byron

This 6’0″ 165 pound forward comes to Maine after playing for Smith Falls and Kemptville 73’s of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) last year. He was drafted in the 6th round of the 2013 NHL Entry draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. He scored 12 goals and 40 assists totaling 52 points. He was named the CCHL’s Top Prospect Award for 2012-13.

Brady Campbell

This 5’11” 180 pound forward comes to Maine after playing for the Elmira Sugar Kings of the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League for the last three years. Last year he scored 40 goals and 29 assists totaling 69 points. He was the given the Ontario Hockey Association Top Prospect Award.

Zach Glienke

This 6’3″ 195 pound forward comes to Maine after playing at Eagan High School where he served as captain. In 28 games he scored 32 goals and 32 assists totaling 64 points. He was teammates with UMaine sophmore forward Will Merchant at Eagan.

Josh Henke

This 5’11” 215 pound forward comes to Maine after playing for the New Jersey Hitmen of the Eastern Junior Hockey League (EJHL). He scored 26 goals and 44 assists totaling 70 points through 51 games. He scored nine points in eight games during the playoffs as the Hitmen won the 2013 EJHL Dineen Cup Championship.

Brian Morgan

This 6’0″ 180 pound forward comes to Maine after playing for the Indiana Ice and Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. He scored 20 goals and 11 assists totaling 31 points. He previously played for the NH Junior Monarchs which is where fellow freshman Cam Brown played.

Daniel Renouf

This 6’2″ 205 pound defenseman comes to Maine after playing for the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. He scored 10 goals and 18 assists totaling 28 points. He finished second in scoring on his team among defensemen.

Eric Schurhamer

This 5’11” 190 pound defenseman comes to Maine after playing for the Waterloo Black Hawks and the Lincoln Stars of the USHL. He scored 1 goal and 8 assists totaling 9 points. He was a Mr. Hockey Finalist in Minnesota when he played at Saint Thomas Academy.
